#41 Amy Bauer
5'11 Guard
Durand, Wi
1988-91

Amy Bauer...where to start?  Amy Bauer came to Wisconsin as the program's first high-file recruit, choosing the Badgers over Notre Dame and a number of other schools.  She left in the middle of her junior season after becoming embroiled in a scandal the ultimately brought down coach Mary Murphy and left the two as opponents in Bauer's unsuccessful attempt to sue the coach.  My only comment on this is that Bauer was the only non-adult in the situation and her behavior has to be seen in that light.

In between, she was a player who alternatively thrilled with her talent and frustrated with her immaturity.  She was a fierce competitor and a hot dog before that was fashionable.

Bauer was a point guard who set the single game record with 21 assists--and that record may never be broken.  Had she finished her career, she may well still hold the career assist record.  She also left with more turnovers than any player in program history.

That dichotomy will be how Amy Bauer is remembered.  Aside from the off-court issues, she was a good player who should have been much better.
