In 1974, the University of Wisconsin put its first women's basketball team on the court. They were called the Badgerettes and shared uniforms with the volleyball team. Crowds, and I use that word loosely, didn't always hit three figures. No scholarships were given.
Flash forward to today. The Badgerettes have become the Badgers. They have their own uniforms, plus practice clothes, travel clothes and hanging out clothes--all provided by the school. Crowds in the five figures are not uncommon. All the players are on full scholarships.
Life for the female basketball player at the UW has gotten much better.
If it's true that the past determines the present, then it's impossible to look simply at where the program is now. In fact, in order to fully appreciate the progress that's been made, it's imperative to look at what came before.
The records section will be updated throughout the season. Check back often to see how the current players compare to their predecessors.
